Game 42: Magic 99, Bulls 94

9 Mar 2012

Three Stars (leaderboard)
1. Carlos Boozer: 26 points (.623 TS%), 7 rebounds, 4 steals
2. Derrick Rose: 17 points (.358 TS%), 4 rebounds, 9 assists
3. Joakim Noah: 9 points (.514 TS%), 10 rebounds (4 off.), 2 assists, 3 stl, 3 blk

You’re almost surprised these days when the Bulls don’t come through down the stretch, but Derrick Rose missed a couple shots, Kyle Korver missed five 3-pointers in about two minutes, and the visitors escaped with a nice win.

I guess you can’t win ’em all.

Don’t focus too much on Orlando’s early 18-point lead and Chicago’s subsequent comeback. The Magic are always prone to booms and busts with their 3-point offense, and you knew the Bulls would keep plugging away and probably get back into the game.

Dwight Howard makes life tough for everyone at the rim, so I’m not especially concerned about Rose’s rough shooting night. Luol Deng and his increasingly painful wrist injury are more worrisome.

Ryan Anderson and Glen Davis are no one’s All-NBA defenders, but Carlos Boozer had a great game, one of his best this season against a quality opponent. Assertive, efficient, and big in key moments. Keep it up, please.

Box Score

Record: 33-9, first in the Eastern Conference
Next: Saturday 3/10 vs. Utah, 7:00 CT
