Game 41: Bulls 106, Bucks 104

8 Mar 2012

Three Stars (leaderboard)
1. Derrick Rose: 30 points (.533 TS%), 8 rebounds, 11 assists
2. Joakim Noah: 20 points (.714 TS%), 10 rebounds (6 off.), 2 blocks
3. Taj Gibson: 10 points (.625 TS%), 7 rebounds (4 off.), 2 blocks

The scouts and the numbers say LeBron James. The media narrative might favor Kevin Durant. But why can’t Derrick Rose be the MVP again this season?

Somehow the Bulls have won eight in a row, surging to the top of the NBA standings, despite getting little secondary production aside from Joakim Noah’s yeoman’s work under the hoop. Luol Deng, playing hurt, has retreated into his shell, and Carlos Boozer is a 260-pound shooting specialist.

That’s how Ersan Ilyasova and Drew Gooden combined for 59 points last night. How the Bucks kept pace the whole way, and had the score tied with 18 seconds left.

But the Bulls gave the ball to Derrick Rose. Another opportunity to dominate Brandon Jennings. Another opportunity to seize victory by the throat and mount its head on the trophy wall.

Dribble. Dribble. Crossover. Step back. Jumper from 22 feet.

Bang.

Box Score

Record: 33-8, first in the NBA
Next: Thursday 3/8 vs. Orlando, 7:00 CT
