Game 40: Bulls 92, Pacers 72

6 Mar 2012

Three Stars (leaderboard)
1. Joakim Noah: 9 points (.521 TS%), 17 rebounds (4 off.), 3 assists
2. Luol Deng: 20 points (.622 TS%), 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal
3. Derrick Rose: 13 points (.385 TS%), 4 rebounds, 9 assists

There was a sense, it seemed, in some corners of the Indiana locker room that the Bulls could be pushed around, out-muscled and otherwise bullied. They could be out-toughed.

I have no idea why the Pacers would believe such a thing about one of the league’s top defensive and rebounding teams, but they were violently disabused of that notion Monday night at the United Center.

After a good fight in the first half, Chicago blew through a 33-13 third quarter, kicking ass and taking names en route to a 60-32 advantage on the boards. Joakim Noah led the way with 17 rebounds, joined by Taj Gibson (9), Carlos Boozer (8), Ronnie Brewer (7), Luol Deng (6), Omer Asik (6) and Derrick Rose (4).

ESPN Stats & Info:

The plus-28 rebounding margin was the biggest by any NBA team against an opponent this season, and the biggest by the Bulls in a game since late in the 1996-97 season when Michael Jordan and company outrebounded the Philadelphia 76ers, 66-32, for their 66th win of the season.

Any time your achievements include the phrase “not since Michael Jordan,” you’re doing something right.

Box Score
