Game 27: Bulls 108, Nets 87

6 Feb 2012

Three Stars (leaderboard)
1. Carlos Boozer: 24 points (.767 TS%), 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal
2. C.J. Watson: 14 points (.643 TS%), 7 rebounds, 11 assists, 2 steals
3. Joakim Noah: 9 points (.557 TS%), 12 rebounds (4 off.), 5 assists, 2 blocks

I’d say when you have 35(!) points and your opponent has 14(!) points after one quarter, you’ve earned the right to trade baskets the rest of the way.

New Jersey is one of the worst teams in the NBA, so it would have been surprising if this hadn’t been a blowout. Which is why all attention after and even during the game was focused squarely on Derrick Rose’s early exit. The reigning MVP never looked comfortable and played only 11 first-half minutes because of the back spasms that first made themselves publicly known Saturday night in Milwaukee.

Rose and Tom Thibodeau say it’s just a little muscle tightness and nothing to worry about. Well, probably not. Can’t promise he’ll be out there Wednesday in New Orleans.

Chicago could have beat the Nets with Brian Scalabrine running the point, and probably can do the same against New Orleans and Charlotte this week, but let’s see if we can get Rose’s back nice and loose, shall we? This compressed schedule is doing no one any favors.

Box Score

Record: 21-6, first in the Eastern Conference
Next: Wednesday 2/8 at New Orleans, 7:00 CT
