All I Need to Know About John Lucas III

3 Jan 2012

I’m fairly confident Tom Thibodeau knows far better than me what qualities a player needs to succeed in the NBA, so it’s good to hear he has total confidence in John Lucas III backing up Derrick Rose for a few games while C.J. Watson’s sprained elbow heals up.

K.C. Johnson notes:

Lucas’ relationship with Thibodeau dates to 2005-07 in Houston when Thibodeau worked on Jeff Van Gundy’s staff. Thibodeau also worked for Lucas’ father, John, in both San Antonio and Philadelphia. This strong connection is why Thibodeau gets fired up whenever asked about Lucas’ credentials.

JL3 isn’t some 10-day rando pressed into service. Thibs knows him well and values his skills as an emergency point guard, even with barely 500 minutes of NBA game action under his belt. That’s good enough for me.
