Game 3: Bulls 108, Kings 98

30 Dec 2011

Three Stars
1. Derrick Rose: 19 points (.571 TS%), 8 assists
2. Carlos Boozer: 16 points (.500 TS%), 15 rebounds, 1 block
3. C.J. Watson: 8 points (.508 TS%), 5 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals in 16 minutes

And so we see the benefit of simply knowing what you’re doing, as the Kings hung around for a while, riding the raw talents of Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins and Marcus Thornton, before the Bulls took control in the closing minutes of the third quarter.

Sacramento got within one at 74-73, but they started doing dumb things: Tyreke taking it himself on a 3-on-1 fast break instead of dishing it off. Cousins going up in traffic when he should have kicked it out.

You can’t say these guys don’t want to win, but they don’t really know how. The focus comes and goes, which is how Chicago wound up with 33 fast-break points and Carlos Boozer had all-you-can-eat open jumpers.

After hitting 1-of-8 shots from 16-23 feet in the first two games, Boozer was back in sharp-shooting form. I’m still not accustomed to a 266-pound player who looks primarily to shoot jumpers, but that can be an awfully effective weapon when Rose is drawing defensive help on his forays to the basket.
